How the calculation works

For each subscription, Annual Equivalent = Subscription Cost × Annual Factor. Add these annual equivalents to find total recurring subscription expenses. Using that total, Monthly Equivalent = Annual Equivalent / 12; Daily Equivalent = Annual Equivalent / 365; Five-Year Cost = Annual Equivalent × 5. Annual Cancellation Savings = Sum of annualized costs marked for cancellation. Remaining Annual Spending = Current Annual Spending − Planned Annual Savings. Marked items stay in current spending; savings and remaining spending are hypothetical. These fixed annualization factors are for budgeting, not an exact calendar of charges. A monthly equivalent is not necessarily an actual monthly charge.

Worked example (all amounts in the selected currency): $5 weekly → $260 annually; $10 every 4 weeks → $130 annually; $15 monthly → $180 annually; $120 yearly → $120 annually. Combined: $690 per year, $57.50 per month, approximately $1.89 per day and $3,450 over five years at unchanged prices. Marking the $5 weekly subscription for cancellation gives $260 annual savings, approximately $21.67 monthly savings and $430 remaining annual spending. Every 4 weeks uses 13 annual charges, whereas monthly uses 12.

Frequently asked questions

How is the monthly equivalent calculated?

Every subscription is first converted to an annual equivalent. The combined annual total is then divided by 12. Your real bank charges may fall on different dates.

Is every four weeks the same as monthly?

No. Every four weeks means 13 charges in a 52-week year, whereas monthly means 12 charges. A $10 charge every four weeks equals $130 per year.

How are quarterly subscriptions calculated?

A quarterly subscription is charged four times per year. For example, $30 per quarter equals $120 per year or a $10 monthly equivalent.

Can I compare weekly, monthly and annual subscriptions?

Yes. Add each subscription with its own billing cycle; the calculator converts them all to equivalent annual and monthly amounts.

What happens when I select Plan to cancel?

The service stays in current spending, but its annualized cost is included in potential savings and excluded from hypothetical remaining spending. No real subscription is canceled.

Does the five-year estimate include price increases?

No. It multiplies the annual equivalent by five, assuming every subscription keeps the same price and frequency.

Does this calculator show actual payment dates?

No. It estimates typical annual and monthly spending using fixed year-based factors, not a dated payment schedule.

Can I use Canadian dollars?

Yes. The US setting uses USD and Canada uses CAD. Switching regions clears the list to avoid mixing currencies; it does not convert amounts.

Does the calculator include taxes or promotional discounts?

Enter the actual recurring amount you want to budget for, including taxes or discounts if applicable. It does not separately estimate taxes or forecast a promotion ending.

Is my subscription list sent to a server?

This calculator runs in your browser. If you enable local saving, the list stays in this browser's local storage and can be cleared. Avoid entering sensitive payment details.

Disclaimer: Planning estimates only, not financial advice. Enter budgeted charges including any taxes, discounts or promotions; these are not calculated separately. No bank or subscription-provider accounts are connected, and no live service-price database is used. The tool does not predict billing dates or cancel services. Browser-local saving is optional, stays in this browser on this device, and is removed if you clear site data.
