Level and decline walking MET values are based on the 2024 Adult Compendium of Physical Activities. Positive treadmill grades use the ACSM walking metabolic equation described in ACSMโs Guidelines for Exercise Testing and Prescription.
One standard MET represents an oxygen cost of 3.5 millilitres per kilogram per minute and is commonly used as a standardized resting-energy baseline. It does not measure your personal resting metabolic rate.

Positive treadmill grades use the ACSM walking equation. It is best supported at approximately 1.9โ3.7 mph, or 3.1โ6.0 km/h. Results outside that range display a warning.
The published 3.3 MET value is used only around 2.8โ3.1 mph and โ3% to โ12% grade. Other decline combinations use a level MET fallback and display a warning.
The 12-3-30 workout means 12% treadmill grade, 3 mph speed, and 30 minutes of walking. Select treadmill mode and enter those settings with your body weight for a personalized MET-based estimate.
