There is no universal formula for converting reptile years to human years. Reptile species mature at different rates and have very different lifespans.
FigureNorth's Reptile Age Calculator uses species-specific maturity, senior-stage, reference-lifespan, and exceptional-longevity references to create an educational human-age comparison. It does not determine an unknown reptile's actual age or predict how long an individual animal will live.
A bearded dragon reaches maturity much sooner than a ball python, while a leopard gecko may spend a larger proportion of its life as an adult. A fixed rule such as “one reptile year equals a certain number of human years” would therefore produce misleading results.
The calculator uses a species-specific, life-stage-based model—not a fixed multiplier. Each species has reference points for the end of the hatchling or newborn stage, maturity, the beginning of the senior stage, reference lifespan, and exceptional longevity.
FigureNorth model conventions: the hatchling or newborn endpoint is 25% of the maturity age, rounded to a whole month and limited to 2–6 months. The calculator uses piecewise linear interpolation between adjacent life-stage reference points. Early development advances more quickly because reptiles experience substantial growth and maturation during their first months or years. Adult aging progresses more gradually.

Results are rounded to one decimal place and capped at 100 human-equivalent years. This prevents ages beyond the model's exceptional-longevity reference from producing increasingly unrealistic comparisons. Between the reference-lifespan and exceptional-longevity points, the same interpolation formula maps 80 to 100 human years. At and beyond the exceptional reference, the displayed result remains capped at 100.
