Pet Boarding Cost Calculator

Estimate dog and cat boarding costs, or costs for another pet, using the individual nightly or daily rates quoted by your facility. Plan stays for up to 10 pets with dates or manual nights, itemized extras, an additional-pet discount and user-entered tax. Choose per-night or inclusive calendar-day billing based on the rates and policies you enter.

Region

Use your facility's quote. Rates, tax and billing rules are entered by you; switching between US and CA resets this booking without converting prices.

Pets and individual rates

1 of 10 pets

Pet 1 is the full-price primary pet. Pets 2–10 receive the entered additional-pet discount on their own boarding rate. Removing Pet 1 makes the next listed pet primary.

Primary · full rate
Optional services for this pet

No extra services for this pet.

One-time booking fees

Examples: transport or reservation fee. Each booking fee is charged once for the whole reservation, regardless of pet count or nights.

No booking-wide fees added.

Money inputs accept a decimal point and up to two places; no automatic currency conversion.

Your boarding cost estimate

Costs update from valid inputs; each pet's itemized charges reconcile with the booking subtotal.

Enter the first pet's boarding rate to see your estimate. Rates of 0 are allowed.

How the estimate is calculated

A kennel boarding cost estimate starts with each pet's quoted rate multiplied by the selected billable units. Pet 1 stays full price; an entered discount applies only to each later pet's own base boarding cost. Add pet services per unit or once, then add booking-wide fees once. The engine calculates in integer cents, rounds each additional-pet discount once to cents and rounds tax once on the combined discounted subtotal. Taxing the full subtotal is a calculation assumption, not a statement of local tax law.

Worked examples — two pets in USD and one cat in CAD

Check in October 18, 2026 and check out October 22, 2026: four nights. A dog at $50/night costs $200; a cat at $40/night costs $160. The cat receives a 20% additional-pet discount ($32), reducing total boarding to $328. Add dog walking at $8/night ($32), dog grooming $15 once, cat medication handling at $5/night ($20), cat one-time service $10 and booking-wide transport $25. The subtotal is $430.00. At 8% tax ($34.40), the total is $464.40 USD. If the same dates use inclusive calendar-day billing, five units give $450 gross boarding minus a $40 discount, $90 in pet services and the same $25 booking fee: a $525 subtotal and $42 tax, for $567.00 USD. In a separate Canadian example, one cat at CAD 40 for three nightly units costs CAD 120. A CAD 5 per-unit service and a CAD 10 one-time service add CAD 25. With no booking fee and 0% tax, the total is CAD 145.00; a 25% additional-pet discount has no effect on a single pet.

Assumptions and limits: prices and tax are user-entered; dates count calendar nights without timezone or daylight-saving adjustments; tax applies to the full discounted subtotal. The calculator does not infer regional taxes, actual facility policies, weekend/holiday premiums, room or breed rates, pickup-time charges, deposits or refunds, and it does not exchange currencies.

Frequently asked questions

How much does dog boarding cost?

Dog boarding cost depends on the rate quoted for each dog, the billed nights or days, selected services, additional fees, any offered discount and tax. Enter your facility's pet boarding prices to calculate the booking total. This calculator does not supply a typical national or local nightly price.

What is the difference between per-night and calendar-day billing?

Per-night billing uses N nights. Inclusive calendar-day billing uses N + 1 units, counting both drop-off and pickup dates. Choose your provider's policy. A dog boarding pickup day charge may instead depend on a cutoff time or a partial-day rule, neither of which is automatically modeled here.

How do I estimate cat boarding cost?

For cat boarding cost per night, multiply the cat's quoted nightly rate by billable nights, then include its services, applicable fees and tax. If your facility bills inclusive calendar days, select that basis instead. Dogs and cats can have different rates and services in the same booking; pet type and room labels never set prices automatically.

How does the additional-pet discount work?

The first pet in the list pays its full base boarding rate. If your facility offers a multi-pet boarding discount, enter that percentage; each later pet receives it on its own base boarding charge. This works for two dogs or mixed pets with different rates. Services and booking-wide fees are not discounted. Enter 0% if no discount is offered.

Does changing which pet is first change the estimate?

It can. The first listed pet is the full-price primary pet. If you remove it, the next pet becomes primary. Check the order and the per-pet discount amounts after making changes.

What is the difference between per-unit and one-time add-ons?

Pet boarding extra fees may include quoted extra walks, grooming or medication administration as a care service. Enter each pet service either per billable unit or one time, following the quote. A transport or pickup fee can be a one-time booking-wide charge. A one-time pet handling fee belongs to that pet. Add only charges your provider actually quotes, without duplicating services already included in the base rate.

How do I calculate dog boarding cost per week?

For a seven-night stay under per-night billing, multiply each dog's nightly rate by seven. Inclusive calendar-day billing produces eight units for that stay. Add quoted services, fees and tax, and enter any additional-pet discount your provider offers. The calculator does not automatically apply a weekly or long-stay discount.

Does the calculator know my state or province's boarding taxes?

No. You enter the tax percentage yourself. The estimate applies it to the full discounted subtotal, including services and booking fees. Actual taxable items and rates may differ by jurisdiction or provider.

Are the average cost figures exact charges per pet or night?

No. Average cost per night and per billable unit are display-only summaries, rounded independently to the nearest cent. They are not payment allocations and may not add up to the itemized totals if multiplied back.

Does this include holiday pricing, deposits or live boarding rates?

No. The calculator does not retrieve current rates or calculate weekend/holiday premiums, dynamic room pricing, pickup-hour charges, deposits, refunds or payment rules. Use your provider's written quote and confirm its policy.
