Planning estimate: This calculator is for planning estimates only. Actual hotel charges can vary because of local occupancy or tourism taxes, resort or destination fees, parking taxes, property-specific charges, and changing nightly rates. The entered tax rate is an estimate; actual taxable charges vary by hotel and location.

Quick answer

Hotel cost is more than the advertised nightly room rate. Multiply the room rate by the number of rooms and nights, then add nightly hotel fees, estimated taxes, one-time fees, and parking.

How to use the hotel cost calculator

  1. 1. Enter the number of rooms and nights.
  2. 2. Add the nightly room rate before added fees and taxes.
  3. 3. Enter any nightly hotel fee and one-time booking fee.
  4. 4. Add the estimated tax rate and parking cost, if applicable.
  5. 5. Compare the total stay cost with the per-night, per-room, and per-room-night averages.

Hotel cost formula

Room charges = Nightly room rate × Rooms × Nights

Nightly hotel fees = Nightly hotel fee × Rooms × Nights

Estimated taxes = (Room charges + Nightly hotel fees) × Tax rate

Parking = Parking per night × Vehicles × Nights

Total hotel cost = Room charges + Nightly hotel fees + Estimated taxes + One-time hotel fee + Parking

Effective cost per room-night = Total hotel cost ÷ (Rooms × Nights)

Tax assumption: the entered tax rate applies to room charges and nightly hotel fees only. Parking and the one-time hotel fee are outside the V1 tax base. Actual hotel taxes and taxable fees vary by location and property.

Worked example

For 2 rooms over 4 nights at $180.00 per room per night, with a 12% tax rate, $35.00 nightly hotel fee, $50.00 one-time fee, and $40.00 parking for 1 vehicle per night:

Room charges
$1,440.00
Nightly hotel fees
$280.00
Estimated taxes
$206.40
Parking
$160.00
One-time hotel fee
$50.00
Total hotel cost
$2,136.40
Average booking cost per night
$534.10
Effective cost per room-night
$267.05

The total stay is $2,136.40, or $1,068.20 per room for the full stay.

What this estimate does not include automatically

The calculator does not look up live room prices, local occupancy or tourism taxes, destination fees, parking taxes, or property-specific rules. It also does not model changing nightly rates, multiple room types, reward points, deposits, or cancellation charges. Enter the costs you want included and treat the result as a planning estimate.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate the total cost of a hotel stay?

Multiply the nightly room rate by the number of rooms and nights, add nightly hotel fees, estimated taxes, one-time fees, and parking. This calculator performs those steps together.

Does the nightly room rate include hotel fees?

Not in this calculator. The nightly room rate is the room charge before added hotel fees and taxes, so nightly hotel fees are entered separately.

How does this calculator handle hotel taxes?

The entered tax rate is applied to room charges and nightly hotel fees only. Actual hotel taxes and taxable charges vary by location and property, so the result is an estimate.

What is a nightly hotel fee?

It is a fee charged per room, per night, such as a resort or property fee. The calculator multiplies it by both rooms and nights.

What is a one-time hotel fee?

It is a single charge for the entire booking or stay. It is added once and is not multiplied by the number of rooms or nights.

How is hotel parking calculated?

Parking equals the parking price per vehicle per night multiplied by the number of vehicles and nights. Parking is outside the tax base in this V1 estimate.

What does effective cost per room-night mean?

It is the total hotel cost divided by the number of room-nights (rooms × nights). It shows the all-in average cost for one room for one night after the included fees, taxes, and parking are counted.

Can I use this calculator for multiple rooms?

Yes. You can enter from 1 to 50 rooms. Room charges and nightly hotel fees are multiplied by the room count, while the one-time hotel fee is added only once.

Why can the final hotel cost be higher than the advertised nightly rate?

An advertised room rate may not show the full effect of taxes, nightly property fees, one-time charges, or parking. Adding those items produces a more useful planning total.
